The Development Of 7 Segment LCD Screen

7 segment  LCD screens don't have a single "inventor." Instead, they are based on the development of liquid crystal display technology. Research at RCA laid the foundation, followed by the invention of TN-LCD by Swiss scientists. Japanese companies were the first to commercialize and apply it to electronic products, playing a significant role in data visualization in small household appliances.

The earliest adopters of LCD segment code screens were Japan's Seiko and Sharp, who developed true 7 segment lcd displays for watches and calculators in the 1970s.

Friedrich Reinitzer (discovery of liquid crystals), George H. Heilmeier (prototype of LCD), and Martin Schadt and Wolfgang Helfrich (invention of TN-LCD) laid a solid foundation for the application of 7 LCD segment screens.

It pre-designed fixed segments (such as the seven segments of the numbers 0-9, or letters and symbols) based on the concept of segment code screens. By selectively energizing the drive electrodes, the corresponding symbols are displayed. When we test the function properly, we usually use the test machine to simulate the electrical signal with AC power to display all the LCD segments.
