Types of Character Displays
The 1602a display is a common 16x2 character LCD. The standard interface is 8/16pin, and a serial interface (such as I2C) can also be added.
20x4 LCD is a 20*4 character liquid crystal display, which is used in equipment that needs to display more text information, status and control parameters.
16x4 LCD is a character LCD display with 16*4. In the solution development, it is a 12864LCD, which is a low-cost replacement product when it does not require displaying patterns.
40x2 LCD has a larger display space and can display more text information. It is usually used in situations where more information needs to be displayed or a larger display area is required.

Display size and number of characters
Number of rows and columns: Indicates the number of characters and rows displayed in each line of the LCD display.
Character dot matrix: Each character is composed of a dot matrix, usually 2x8 or 16x2, which means that each character is composed of 5 columns and 8 rows (or 10 rows) of dot matrix.
Controller type
HD44780: The most common character LCD controller, widely used in 16x2, 20x2, 20x4 and other displays. It supports parallel interface and serial interface.
ST7066U: Compatible with HD44780, commonly used in various LCD display modules.
Interface type
Parallel interface/serial interface: /I2C (I²C)/SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface)
Operating voltage
Standard voltage: Most LCD character displays use 5V/3.3V power supply to operate.
Backlight
Backlight color: Common backlight colors are blue, green and white, and some displays also provide reverse

Uses of LCD Character Displays

Production line monitoring: In industrial automation, LCD character displays are often used for production line monitoring to display real-time data such as equipment operating status, temperature, speed, pressure, etc.
